IT'S FESTIVAL TIME!

This year's Wilsonville Festival of Arts is a
very special year. Our theme of "Upcycled & Recycled" has
brought us special artists, entertainers, and activities to
delight us all. Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce is starting us
off with the Second Annual Parade, "Junk to Funk" following
along with theme. There will be special recycled floral artist,
Christopher Reitmaier, creating an onsite Mandella made from
discarded florist goods and other recycled materials. We have
Janet Julian with us this year to work with children creating
musical instruments and other crafts, and they will enjoy their
own parade at 3:15 on Saturday. Joining us again is the Kiwanis
Key Club with more crafts with kids. Hector Hernandez will be
conducting the final phase of the Community Art Project for
installation in the Visitor's Center. And, special this year,
is a Silent Auction with donations from over 30 artists and also
some of our valued sponsors. The stage entertainment lineup is
superb, ending with "Recycleman and the Dumpster Divers", Sunday
at 4:00 pm.
This Newsletter edition will highlight many
of the events. Be sure and join us. You will be delighted!

Wilsonville
High Art Students
Step Up In View Of Harsh Budget Cuts
By Jane Crotteau
Red.
Orange.
Yellow.
Green. Blue.
These colors represent everything that encompasses our society.
Through the coming months, the students at
Wilsonville
High School
fear that the colors that paint this world around us may
disappear: a light blown out, one struck by budget cuts that
strip our school of all hopes for a brighter and more colorful
future.
By founding the Arts In Our Hearts Foundation, the
students within Wilsonville's very own community will raise
money for the music, visual, and drama programs at their high
school. This will allow these things so precious to us to
continue to blossom and grow.
At the
Wilsonville Festival of Arts this coming June 5th and 6th, our
foundation of young minds will be auctioning off student art
work, music, and books – our attempt at raising money and
raising hopes for the future – a future illuminated by color.
PLEASE … come
and support your community, your children's education, your
children's form of expression.
The Wilsonville
Festival of Arts is providing the Arts In Our Hearts Foundation
with a booth next to the Student Art Pavilion. They will have a
live auction on stage Saturday, June 5th right after the
Wilsonville/West Linn school district ‘Trashion Show’ which
begins at
3:30 pm.
They will also
have various pieces in the Festival's Silent Auction Saturday
and Sunday, located inside the Visitor's Center.

Arts In Our Hearts |
|
Can you hear us?
Can you hear the music flowing from our hearts?
The spectrum of sound bellowing from our veins?
Can you see us, read the
stories we paint,
the words etched in our skin,
Whiteness the dedication founded in our bones?
Can you feel us?
Sense our emotions pressing against you side,
The meaning behind the individuals we portray,
The lines that erupt from our very being.
And can you understand
us;
Comprehend our desires for creativity,
Our cravings for self expression,
Our hopes Our dreams.

|
Here at
Wilsonville High School, no here in the city,
in the community of Wilsonville we know that the arts
matter, that patience, that dedication, that family ties
matter. Over the next coming months danger in the form
of bullets fired from the guns of budget cuts will
smother America. Shots that will possibly strike the
arts program right here in our dear society, shackling
the foundation of the arts community, through the heart
of educational system.
With the assistance
of the "Arts In Our Hearts Foundation" the student body
at the
Wilsonville High School
hopes to support the perhaps crumbling art program and
allow it to once again blossom. Through donations, book
sales, and auction as well as other proceeds collected
at the Wilsonville Festival of Arts, our foundations
prays to keep the arts and every form of expression in
our community alive, breathing not only throughout our
own generations, but in yoars to come. Help us achieve
our goal, help the body and soul of the arts survive,
and allow it to continue to pump the beauty of world
through all of us.

Wilsonville Theater Company

Frogpond Grange ~ 27350 Stafford Rd. ~ Wilsonville OR 97070
The Wilsonville Theater Company is a community theater group
based in Wilsonville, Oregon, about 20 miles south of Portland.
We encourage anyone with an interest in theater to get involved.
And, plan to come see a live performance soon!
See video briefs of our performances in Booth #5 and
catch our performance contest
on the Festival stage Saturday at 2:50 p.m.
www.wilsonvilletheatercompany.org/
|
The Wilsonville
Theater Company (WTC) will host a booth at the upcoming
arts festival. Stop by (booth #5) to show off your dramatic or
comedic talents. We will have a mini-stage and attendees will
be recorded delivering a “one-liner” to show off your talent.
Your performance will be posted on our website so if you are a
budding thespian (of any age) this is your chance to show off.
There will also be videos
of our past performances running on both days in case you didn’t
have the chance to see them performed live.
We will have some time on
the main stage on Saturday so you will want to come by and be
entertained by some of the members of the company doing short
comic skits. I guarantee there will be some real “knee
slappers” to keep you giggling.
Be on the look out next
October 15 and 16 for our next production, “Who’s on First” at
the Frogpond Grange. It is a hilarious comedy about two couples
stuck in a never ending party. It is a wacky cast of characters
you won’t want to miss.
For more information on WTC
please go to our website
www.wilsonvilletheatercompany.org. or call President, Mary
Ann Creason at 503-582-1829 or e-mail at
mcreason@gmail.com.
See you at the arts
festival.

working with FunDAZ in a fundraising venture. FunDaz’s goal is
to help fund schools and other programs by giving consumers
discounts on products they use every day. Merchants win with
customers being drawn to their doors. At this time we are able
to offer merchants FREE advertising. Merchants will be listed
on the FunDAZ website for WA&CC. They will also be listed on the
FunDaz national site.
WA&CC is making an impact on the Wilsonville Community and
beyond. The Council’s mission is to promote and support arts
and culture by providing a structure where Wilsonville area arts
and culture organizations can work together. WA&CC’s signature
event, Wilsonville Festival of Arts, has just celebrated its
10th. anniversary. We are a partner for many other events in
the community such as The NW Author’s Series and Book Notes
Concert Series—both at the library, and the Wilsonville Theater
Company operating at the Frogpond Grange.
What we would like to have happen is for the business community
of Wilsonville to become involved in supporting arts and
culture. With this no-cost-for-participation opportunity, as a
FunDaz merchant, all that is asked is to provide the best
discount you have for card holders, ie: regular “dinner 2 for 1”
could be “dinner 2 for 1 plus a free drink”. We understand
this may take some creative thinking for some business
discounts. Feel free to look at the website
www.wilsonvillecard.org to get an idea, then, let your
creative juices flow.
In the current economic climate, traditional grant funding
organizations are cutting back and WA&CC is feeling the effect.
It is more important than ever that we build our membership
base. We need your help.
There are many ways to become a Sponsor. One way is to become a
supporting sponsor with the FunDaz savings card. Business can
support WA&CC with a bulk purchase and utilize the cards for
employee incentives, birthdays, Christmas gifts, or for special
customer appreciation. We can create a custom package to meet
your needs.
The savings card is good for one year from the date of issue.
To become a FunDaz merchant and support the Wilsonville Arts &
Culture Council, contact Kate Atkins, Membership Coordinator, at
503-692-8653 or
kateatkins@wilsonvilearts.org.
She can also develop a personalized package for your business.

Joke Du Jour
Recycling?
Trying to do my share to help the
environment, I set up a trash basket at my church and posted
above it this suggestion: "Empty water bottles here."
I should have been a little more specific, because when I went
to check it later, I didn't find any bottles in it. But it was
full of water.
